How I tripled affiliate sales in one month
Octobers goal was to increase affiliate sales. I was now moved into our apartment and made it to the second trimester. I definitely felt a little relief of sickness and exhaustion (although not much) plus we found out we are having a girl!
What worked this month:
Using my email list for affiliate sales! I used the Core Affiliate Strategy Guide (this guide is the exact strategy that the Busy Budgeter used to go from $0/month affiliate income to over $12,000/month just from affiliates) and the best part is that even if you list is small (she recommends 2,000 although I had closer to 1,200 this month) you can still use it make money AND provide a helpful resource to your readers (which is what it’s all about anyway right?)
Changing the way I email. When I send out an email, I think of it as another blog post- one that is JUST for my subscribers. I don’t find RSS feeds helpful (in fact I find them annoying) and my readers subscribe for MORE.. not something they can get on my site at any given day. I always start with a story and then go into whatever resource I’m talking about that day (and apply affiliate links as appropriate)
Changing my welcome email. I found this amazingly helpful for engagement. Instead of talking at my readers, I changed my welcome email sequence to be a little about me and to find out a little about them. I ask them specific questions and I was surprised to find out how many people actually responded to me and engaged in conversation. It was awesome, I love it!
What didn’t work this month:
Scheduling posts ahead of time. I am STILL working on this. Every month I want it to be a goal that works but it just never does. However, this month I have read a book on productivity and taken the Daily Productivity course. Coupled with advice I’ve gotten from Rosemarie (of the Busy Budgeter), I plan to focus on batch blogging and working in 30-minute increments.
Rosemarie has two small kids that require attention like ALL kids. She sets a timer for 30 minutes and then when it goes off, she stops and gets on the floor to play with her kids. They started to realize that if they let mom work during that time, that they would get EXTRA time with her when the timer went off. I plan to implement this for November as I hope that it will work well for my son as well (he is struggling to even give me 5 minutes to sit at the computer without whining and pulling at my shirt)

My pageviews and visitors were just about all regained from the decrease in September and my list grew! I’ll count that as a win for sure.
October income breakdown:
- Ad network: $19.27
- Affiliate: $82.20
- Sponsored posts: $50.00
- Freelance: $60.00
- Direct Sales: $14.00
- Services: $80
- Total income: $305.47
It wasn’t a huge increase, but any increase is cause for celebration if you ask me! My affiliates sales went from $30.37 to $82.20 which is almost tripled. You might’ve also noticed a new category: services. I recently started designing Pinterest images for other bloggers (ya know since I spend most of my time perfecting my Pinterest skills).
